Fitness Passport Explained

You may already be a Fitness Passport subscriber, or have heard about it. You may even be part of an organisation that is able to offer Fitness Passport and are considering your options. Here is the low down of what, where, why and why not when it comes to Fitness Passport:

Fitness Passport is a membership that is available most often to QLD GOVERNMENT organisations like Queensland Health, Education Dept, Police, Firefighters, Paramedics and some independent companies and not for profits. It offers a membership to be able to use gyms who agree to sign up to FP, and promises you will get access all over the place for less than most clubs will charge per week.

The reality is a little different:

Firstly, most clubs sign up to FP reluctantly because they feel they have to or they will be left out of the loop with that pool of members that live locally and work for the above organisations. The reason clubs can be reluctant is simple - the local club only gets paid for a SMALL FRACTION of Fitness Passport memberships that use the facility, and the rest of the revenue goes to Fitness Passport and out of the community.

Secondly, the current FP rate is more than $17 per week, for a 12 month contract with a very high termination fee. Once you are in, you are stuck in without being significantly penalised if you want to leave early. So if you want to change clubs to somewhere that doesn't offer FP, or stop training, it is going to cost you.

Thirdly, FP members may not have full access to all group fitness classes or facilities in every club. So if you live local and want to do the classes that usually cost more on an upgraded membership, you will have more to pay.

Is Fitness Passport worth it?

SOMETIMES....For some people who travel around, FP can be quite convenient allowing staffed hours access to other clubs in other towns. If your work is moving you around for months at time, it can offer a solution to not having to sign up to a new gym each time and copping short term higher rates.....

WHY JOIN US IF YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR FITNESS PASSPORT?

Airlie Fitness has a standard 12 Month Commitment Membership at only $15.50 per week, with a significantly lower early termination fee ($120) than Fitness Passport if you need to leave early PLUS free suspension for up to 4 weeks per annum for travel, sickness or any reason at all!

Airlie Fitness offers a special Emergency Services rate for QHS, QPS, QAS, QFS that is only $15.50 per week, with a reduced setup fee that does not have a lock in clause - so moving around with transfers and placements is easy. It is a full $2 per week less than FP, is no contract, and is able to be held for travel etc.

Airlie Fitness offers 2 local clubs, and partners with 4 in Mackay and 1 in Brisbane to offer some convenience when travelling.

Airlie Fitness offers FULL ACCESS TO ALL CLASSES.. ALWAYS!

So please, consider your options if you organisation is offering Fitness Passport, but don't sell yourself or your local community short by paying more to an organisation that doesn't live here, for less than a local club can give you.
